Jenn has a passion for helping people engage in a holistic lifestyle, and has been doing so as a practicing yoga instructor for over a decade. It was through the yoga community that she was first introduced to acupuncture, and began receiving treatment for pain management, mental health support, and to help manage seasonal allergies. After noticing the incredible benefits she received from these sessions, Jenn felt a natural pull to study acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. As of June 2023, Jenn has successfully graduated as a Registered Acupuncturist from Macewan University in Edmonton.

Jenn is now practicing under her own business name: Jenn Poholka Wellness, which is located just south of Whyte Avenue. By establishing her own practice, Jenn has the flexibility to create a healing atmosphere that aligns with her values, as well as the needs of her patients. Regardless of their wellness goal, her clients can trust that she has the expertise and determination to offer a personalized and effective approach. Jenn strongly emphasizes communication – ensuring that her patients feel both seen and heard – reflecting her commitment to create a safe and nurturing environment. By welcoming individuals from diverse backgrounds and walks of life, she ensures everyone feels valued and supported on their unique healing journeys.

Jenn has an open and inclusive practice, with training in many different areas of study, allowing her to address a wide range of health concerns. The treatments that she is most passionate about include:

Chronic and acute pain management, mental and emotional health support (anxiety, depression, C-PTSD, nervous system regulation, stress reduction, burnout), insomnia and fatigue, womxn’s health (hormonal regulation, menstrual irregularities, painful periods, peri menopause and post menopausal symptoms) , digestive disturbance, allergies, and respiratory problems.

In Jenn’s practice, she sees value in working not only in the realm of acupuncture, but also loves to incorporate a variety of other modalities of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) into her sessions. She is skilled in: auricular acupuncture, scalp acupuncture, electro acupuncture, fire cupping, silicon cupping, gua sha, bleeding techniques, tui na massage, and the use of herbal oils. This depth of knowledge allows her to tailor her treatments to the specific needs of each client.

  1. Auricular Acupuncture: This involves stimulating specific points on the ear to treat various conditions. It’s often used for pain management, addiction treatment, and stress reduction.

  2. Scalp Acupuncture: This treatment targets specific areas of the scalp to address neurological and musculoskeletal issues. It’s commonly used for conditions like stroke recovery and pain management.

  3. Electro Acupuncture: This technique involves attaching electrodes to acupuncture needles to provide electrical stimulation. It can enhance the effects of acupuncture and is often used for pain relief and muscle issues.

  4. Fire Cupping: Cupping involves creating a vacuum inside glass cups and placing them on the skin. It’s used to increase blood flow, reduce muscle tension, and promote healing.

  5. Silicon Cupping: Similar to traditional cupping, silicon cupping uses silicone cups, which are more flexible and can be moved across the skin. It’s often preferred by those who are sensitive to traditional cupping methods.

  6. Gua Sha: Gua sha involves scraping the skin with a smooth-edged tool to stimulate blood flow and relieve muscle tension. It’s used for pain relief and to address issues like colds and respiratory conditions.

  7. Bleeding Techniques: Bloodletting techniques, as a component of TCM, are used selectively for specific conditions, such as certain skin conditions or blood stagnation.

  8. Tui Na Massage: Tui na is a form of Chinese therapeutic massage that incorporates acupressure and stretching techniques. It’s used to alleviate pain and improve circulation.

  9. Herbal Oils: Herbal oils can be applied topically during treatments to enhance the therapeutic effects. Different herbal oils are chosen based on the patient’s condition.

In addition to acupuncture and TCM, Jenn also teaches Yoga at Yogalife Studios and offers private, one-on-one yoga sessions. She views movement as a form of medicine, and her expertise as a yoga instructor allows her to work with clients who have mobility issues or are recovering from injuries. She creates personalized sequences and exercises to help clients regain strength, flexibility, and range of motion, tailored to their specific needs and limitations. Additionally, Jenn enjoys working with clients to support their mental health via yoga therapy. She incorporates meditation and breath techniques into these sessions, along with gentle movement. These modalities can help clients manage their emotions, reduce stress, and improve focus and mindfulness. Jenn’s unique combination of skills and experiences provide her clients with a comprehensive approach to improving their overall health and wellness.
